NATIONAL HOLY DAYS

Alternatives to “Holy Days of Obligation”

Ascension Thursday is now Ascension Sunday. Epiphany has been transferred from January 6 to the 2nd Sunday after Christmas.

Fr. Bill addresses the low attendance of Catholics for Holy Days of Obligation and suggests alternative days that can tap into our identity as Americans, and how they can draw people into Church.

CHRISTMAS IS A NATIONAL RELIGIOUS HOLIDAY

Fr. Bill returns to his podcast to talk about Christmas not only as a secular observance, but one in which even atheists give a nod to the birth of Jesus just by virtue of celebrating Christmas (however they do it).  Christmas is also a national reminder of our “First Freedom” as Americans — which is not the Freedom of Speech (at best, that is the Second Freedom).

A “DARKNESS” IN THE LIGHT – The Epiphany

Homily – Epiphany Sunday, 2020

Both Matthew and Luke present a more foreboding tale as part of their Infancy Narratives. Both involve a revelation or Epiphany, of Jesus.

Fr. Bill preaches both “Epiphanies” and discusses how they constitute a darker side to the Birth of Jesus, and a sober reminder of who it is whose birth we celebrate.
